Chen-ou Liu
unemployed
I take revenge
upon my deadly enemy
I chop Time
into moments
a mangy dog
hit by a stone
howls at the sky —
alone
I do likewise
gazing up
at the moon over Ajax
I realize
it's bigger than
the one Li Po wrote of
a tight photo
of you and me
invisible
to the camera's eye
two minds apart
I challenge the sun
question the moon
why did yesterday
fade the shooting stars
in the dark sky?
Chen-ou Liu was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and settled in Canada in 2002. He lives in Ajax, a suburb of Toronto, where he has been struggling with a life in transition and translation. His poems have appeared in Ribbons, Modern English Tanka, Gusts, American Tanka, and Magnapoets.
