HAIKU

Tyrone McDonald

Thanksgiving dinner --
we pretend not to hear
the fire engines

  the seagull
displays its wing span --
basketball court

kiddie party,
the adults' alone time ...
fireflies

  Christmas --
the coins behind the radiator
i'll never reach

New Year's Day
the baby spits out
black eye peas
