HAIKU

Jared Carter

summer rain
names and initials
carved in the railing

  bamboo grove
a hundred ways
of entering

clear sky
on the old bridge pier
a pair of storks

  second frost
the rattle of gourds
left on the vine

cold wind
a last few leaves
scratch at my door

Jared Carter lives in Indianapolis. His first published haiku appeared recently in The Heron's Nest. His fourth book of poems, Cross this Bridge at a Walk, is available from Wind Publications in Kentucky. He maintains a web site at http://www.jaredcarter.com/ .
