round a fir tree

at the front gate
children singing carols

all night
behind the skirting board
persistent scuffling

silently a badger
eats the cat's food

a ghostly moon

for pudding her favourite
pumpkin pie and cream

prostrated by gales
the scarecrow in a tutu
loses his crown

after the coup
the king's forced into exile

what might have happened
if we'd made that audience
with the Dalai Lama

near the riverside shrine
one burnt down incense stick

in the bay window
I place a lit candle
on father's day

during the holidays
he always took them camping

two swallowtails
zigzag slowly across
an open field

that night the way
they danced together

round the person
of the new bishop
a dazzling aura

among the feral pigeons
one white dove

a check patterned blouse
bought at Oxfam

a maypole on the green
just as Grandma knew

snagged on a twig
camouflaged by blossom
a balloon

atop a stone by the pond
the stillness of a toad
