Nijûin : Windy Town Square

windy town square…
a man drapes lights
round a fir tree

Diana Webb

at the front gate
children singing carols

Frank Williams

all night
behind the skirting board
persistent scuffling

DW

silently a badger
eats the cat's food

FW

* * * *

above the church
at Halloween
a ghostly moon

DW

for pudding her favourite
pumpkin pie and cream

FW

prostrated by gales
the scarecrow in a tutu
loses his crown

DW

after the coup
the king's forced into exile

FW

what might have happened
if we'd made that audience
with the Dalai Lama

DW

near the riverside shrine
one burnt down incense stick

DW

* * * *

in the bay window
I place a lit candle
on father's day

FW

during the holidays
he always took them camping

DW

two swallowtails
zigzag slowly across
an open field

FW

that night the way
they danced together

DW

round the person
of the new bishop
a dazzling aura

FW

among the feral pigeons
one white dove

DW

* * * *

Mabel wears
a check patterned blouse
bought at Oxfam

FW

a maypole on the green
just as Grandma knew

DW

snagged on a twig
camouflaged by blossom
a balloon

DW

atop a stone by the pond
the stillness of a toad

FW
