The Weight of the Moon
hortensia anderson
She stands nude on the deck, facing
the Atlantic. Her belly, like the moon,
is almost full. I have clicked through
the last roll of film.
At thirty-nine weeks, she complains
of feeling "like a weight", but her face
glows.
The most precious picture I own has
my mother, naked and kneeling in
profile, not knowing my birth is mere
hours away.
