HAIKU

Patrick Sweeney

a waste place
how then
the silver-spotted hesperid

  sulphur butterfly:
why do you come
as a drunken man

on what other planet
the shadow
of bamboo

  up close
sea cucumber
have we met

deep snow
from the back of the house
she only sings the chorus
