HAIKU

Kотешки нокът
одрасква водата
звън на шамисен
 
A cat's nail
scratching
the water –
 
   
  Ято щъркели
дълга лигатура към
топлите страни.
  Flock of storks –
a long ligature toward
the hot lands
   
Гарван в мъглата
невидимите струни
на тих контрабас.
 
A raven in the fog –
the invisible cords
of a silent contrabass.
 
   
  По палатката
барабанят скакалци -
страх от бурята
  grasshoppers
drum on the tent –
a fear from the storm
 
С пръсти разрошвам
тревата след себе си
зелени паузи.
 
With fingers I ruffle
the grass after me –
green pauses
 
   

Iliana Ilieva Iliana Ilieva was born in 1969 in Vratsa, Bulgaria. For the last 20 years she has lived in Sofia. She graduated from the National school for ancient languages and Sofia University. She is a writer of poems and haiku. Her works have been published in various Bulgarian newspapers and magazines; in the Russian internet magazine Lyagushatnik; in the almanac Haikumena-2; in the anthology Haiku So Vsedo Mira PUT; and on the World Haiku Association website. Her first book of haiku and tanka, Zhabeshki skok (A Frog's Jump, 2004) was illustrated by the Moscow artist Valery Dunaev. Since 2005 she has worked as an editor of the poetical miniature section of the internet magazine Liternet.bg.

Recently Iliana won 1st Prize in the Bulgarian haiku section at the International Contest Haiku in the music--the music in haiku, organized by the Bulgarian Haiku Club, and supported by the "Zone for rock and jazz" of the Bulgarian National Radio Program "Horizon," as well as by foreign societies for haiku poetry in Europe, America and Australia. The haiku featured here were among those winning 1st Prize.
