the wind's path
through brown grass
 
   
  leaves
in the bird bath . . .
autumn light
   
heat wave . . .
even yellow jackets
fly low
 
   
  suddenly,
these last afternoons . . .
cicadas
 
dawn seeps
through the screen door . . .
fresh skunk
 
   

Ann K. Schwader lives and writes in Westminster, Colorado.
