HAIKU

Mark Smith

in need of nothing
the old pine
loses more needles

  if it were only her...
the wind
in moonlit curtains

first light...
fog settles
in the empty benches

  early autumn snow...
the crow buries its head
in feathers

today nothing
but the naked quiver
of branches

poet Mark Smith is an adjunct instructor of English at Frostburg State University. His haiku have appeared in The Heron's Nest and Buddha's Temple. Other poems have appeared in Kestre and other literary journals. Smith resides in Keyser, West Virginia.
