HAIKU

Moira Clark

lingering snow -
winter hunched
on my windowsill

  under summer stars -
a glass in my hand
holding the moon

sudden downpour -
my daughter's paper hat
streaming down her cheeks

  summer rain -
snails' cursive trails
there, not there

autumn equinox -
even the windmill
can't catch the wind

poet Moira Clark is fifty something and has been a prize-winner in the Kumamoto International Kusamakura competition four times. She has had haiku published in Japan and in Presence.
