HAIKU

Shane Gilreath

plumeria tree --
your intoxicating flowers
are heaven-scent.

mother hen
you are the "eyes" --
the "dots" follow.

little fish,
humuhumunukunuku apua'a --
with the big name

mango in my hand
standing over the kitchen sink --
mango on my face.

as children
we submerged below the ocean --
to hear the humpback's song

Shane Gilreath Shane Gilreath resides in Los Angeles where he works for a mid-sized law firm as an intake interview clerk. He grew up on the Hawaiian island of Maui and often reminisces about smog-free skies and fresh ocean air. In his spare time, Shane collects Hawaiiana (items associated with the history and cultural aspects of Hawaii) and enjoys listening to Hawaiian music.
