HAIKU

Mike W. Blottenberger

still morning—
a blue dragonfly stirs
the marsh fog

after the storm—
a rainbow
over the prison

desert rain—
I suddenly remember
my first kiss

red maple
letting go
leaf by leaf

the arc
of an abandoned
fishing rod

Mike W. Blottenberger was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and now resides in Hanover, Pennsylvania. His haiku have appeared in Frogpond, Acorn, Heron's Nest, Tundra, and Mid-America Poetry Review. He did not start writing haiku until after the death of his younger sister. His other passions are growing bonsai, and coaching gymnastics and soccer.
