Slavica Blagojević

Slavica Blagojević was born on October 13, 1958 in Ćuprija, Serbia and Montenegro. She lives in the village of Lešje near Paraćin. A nurse by profession, she writes prose, poetry and haiku poetry. Her many other interests include fine arts (painting in oil and on Chinese silk) and literary criticism. She has published two books of poetry: Školjka (The Shell) and Povelja na Sigi (Charter on the Stalagmite) and two books of haiku poetry: Perunike za Peruna (Irises for Thor) and Perunike za Fabiolu (Irises for Fabiola). Her poems have been included in some thirty collections published in Serbia and Montenegro and in former Yugoslavia, and her haiku poems have been published in national haiku journals and collections.

She is the recipient of a number of awards and commendations for her poetry and paintings, and her illustrations have been included in several books. She has exhibited her paintings in many solo and group exhibitions. She is the sole organizer of the traditional painters and poets group Leštijanska pustinja-Hilandar (The Desert of Lešje-Chilandar) in her village. Slavica Blagojević is the founder of a library Venedikt Crepojević in the monastery of Pokrov Presvete Bogorodice (Most Holy Mother of Jesus Shroud) by means of which she has broken the six century long silence of the greatest medieval Serbian cultural heritage of her village. She is a member of the Journalist Association of Serbia and Montenegro, the Haiku Association of Serbia and Montenegro, the Writers Association of Serbia and the Jagodina Artists’ Club.
