Haiku ~ JoSelle Vanderhooft

Not even bone-tear cold
Shakes my stubborn feet
From these beaded sandals.
  Fresh pomegranate
  Bleeds down my shirt---
Open heart surgery
Cricket hums on water
Toad has a lily-pad grin.
  Lover ghost,
  You are colder than
  The sea on my ankles.
Jack o' lantern smile
Awkward-flecked with seeds.
I do not cry at parties.

JoSelle Vanderhooft divides her time between Salt Lake City, Utah and Louisville, Kentucky. She writes poetry, plays, novels and freelance articles in any state, environment or climate. Her poem "November 3rd" can be seen on
