Zen, Buddha-nature—as described
in
the insciption—and human nature—epitomized by Daruma—are
considered to be a single entity. Taiko served many years as head of the
Myoshin-ji Branch
of Rinzai Zen. He was a prolific Zen artist, and would often brush Daruma
paintings on the spot as a kind of autograph. This may well be an example
of one of Taiko's
