Fay Aoyagi: Haiku

tiny sour oranges--
a kabuki actor with bleached hair
talks about tradition the hunter and the hunted--
  a black balloon becomes
  a sky's hole
with the confidence
of catwalk models
hyacinths the attic
  where silk worms lived
  a shadow with no name
I have learned
to act like them--
peonies born in a year
  of the monkey
  my trickster life
Snow Moon--
a calligraphy brush stops
in mid air a box
  of thank-you cards--
  autumn deepens

Fay Aoyagi was born in Tokyo.

She immigrated to the U.S. in 1984.

She writes haiku in English and Japanese.
