Ruth Holzer: Haiku

change of season--
storing the clothes
I never wore the hush
  of folded wings--
  autumn twilight
from Puvirnituq
this black stone salmon has leapt
to me summer evening--
  my shadow goes past
  the No Trespassing sign
assisted living--
she begins
to die

Ruth Holzer works as a translator. Her haiku has appeared and/or are forthcoming in Modern Haiku, Frogpond, Mayfly, Acorn, The Heron's Nest, bottle rockets, paper wasp, Lynx, Potpourri, the 2003 Red Moon Anthology, and others. She credits her introduction to haiku to Jean Shepherd's long-ago radio readings.
