John Bird: Haiku

the train home -
phone lines swoop
post to post river twilight
  strangers' voices grow
  with the darkness
alone at dusk --
lorikeets pair off
in the hoop pine cloudy dawn
  birdsong from all sides
  of the graveyard
opening the drapes --
.........the underbelly
.........of a frog

John Bird describes himself as "a right-handed poet from the east coast of Australia."

He has a focus on haiku sequences and his haiku may be seen at Poetry with John Bird.

He is a member of HaikuOz: The Australian Haiku Society.
