image: Carole MacRury :: haiku: Michikaze (1640-1709)

Michikaze lived a full life, seeking wealth and fame and enjoying geishas. Later on he wrote a tanka which repented his former lifestyle. He died on the fourth of April, 1709 at the age of sixty-nine. His haiku reflects on "Koromogae" which is a seasonal reference for the change of clothes from heavy winter clothing to lighter summer robes. His death poem indicates to me he might be looking upon his death as yet another adventure!
