Elena Naskova: Haiku

baby’s first step --
in the backyard
a rain puddle starless night -
  the riverbed
  dreams of water
distant lights -
my slippers wait
under my bed silent dinner -
  eighty-three stripes
  on your tablecloth
morning prayer -
a bird flies into
the windowpane

Elena Naskova was born and raised in Macedonia.
