Mike Lyon (b. 1951) http://mlyon.com recently celebrated the eleventh anniversary of his fabulously happy marriage to rabid community volunteer Linda, a 1974 graduate in French from the University of Texas and a 1978 MBA from the Harvard Business School. Their five children, Max and Allegra Lyon (18 year old twins from Mike's first marriage), Andy Goldberg 22, Scott Goldberg 20, and Cecily Lyon 20 have, through the magic of college admissions, conspired to leave Linda and Mike completely empty-nested in Kansas City, Missouri by September of this year.
Mike is a 1973 graduate in Architecture and Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a 1975 graduate in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. He was introduced to moku-hanga (Japanese woodblock printmaking) during five weeks of intense study under Hiroki Morinue.
Mike is an avid collector of 18th and 19th century Japanese woodblock prints, and he manages the quarterly woodblock print exchanges for the Baren International Forum of Woodblock Printmaking. He is also Midwest Regional Director (and temporarily the webmaster) of Shotokan Karate of America where he has taught karate-do to adults for almost twenty years. He and his wife share a stand in the second violin section of the Kansas City Civic Orchestra where they most recently performed Mahler's Symphony No. 2 at Kansas City's gorgeous Scottish Rite Temple. And because of all of this, he is very, very busy and congenitally behind schedule and so he can't write any more about himself now but must return to the serious work of carving and printing and furniture making and practicing karate and violin!
