I am a Canadian poet and live and teach

two of them being collections of haiku, senryu, and
tanka. My most recent titles are Hot Flashes:
Maiduguri Haiku, Senryu, and Tanka (Ekstasis
Editions, 2001 ) and Live Evil: A Homage To Miles
Davis ( Thistledown Press, 2000 ). Other
haiku etc. have appeared in Haiku Canada, Presence,
Short Stuff, World Haiku Review, Haiku Light and
elsewhere.

her death so sudden --
hummingbird sips nectar
as you cup the phone
a murder of crows
caw from the cottonwoods ...
how should I reply?
to kill or not to --
the wasp nest its own
paper brain
already yellow,
a single arbutus leaf
flutters to the ground
one sharp yelp --
still dachshund pup snaps
at the grounded wasp
